More thrilling action in Week Two

The second week of the 2015 Western Province Club Rugby season – on Saturday, April 18 – saw some thrilling games take place.

In Super League A, newcomers Sir Lowrians held Stellenbosch to a 16-0 lead at half-time before the class of the students came through and took the game away from the gallant Sir Lowrians 45-22.

The slow start of St Georges continued after they were thrashed again this time by Belhar who ran out comfortable winners at Gustrouw. SK Walmers wasted all their chances in a close game at UWC campus – losing narrowly 22-24.

In Super League B, Kuilsriver stayed ahead of the pack and once again secured a comprehensive win over Violets (by 46-12). In other action, Union Milnerton beat Young Peoples 55-19 and Bellville returned to winning ways by beating Pniel Villagers 23-15 in Pniel. NNK were too strong for Brackenfell, whilst Raithby Universals’ poor start continued as they lost away to Franschhoek.

In Super League C, Young Stars were brought back down to earth by losing to Langa, with Masiphumelele notching up their first win of the season (17-12) over Silvertree. Goodwood continued their impressive run by beating Strand United 41-10 and Paarl beat Stel/Cor 30-23.

In the City League competition, Busy Bees beat Progress on Friday night at City Park, while the good start of newcomers Western Zebras came to a halt in Pinelands with Police beating them 39-0.

In the Northern League, All Saints beat Khayelitsha 44-0, while Delft beat Whistling Wheels 22-0. In the Southern League, Eersterivier beat Thistles and Titans narrowly lost to Peninsula. Rocklands had an emphatic 52-3 win over Richmond Rangers.

The much-anticipated Paarl derby between Young Standards and Vineyards was cancelled due to a member of Vineyards that passed away. In Simonsberg, meanwhile, newcomers Constantia beat Lwandle and Faure were comprehensive winners over Blue Stars Rural by 50-0.

After two rounds of rugby, the various logs are starting to take shape but a lot of exciting rugby is still ahead of us this year!

Some clubs will take a break this weekend, with the only Super League A game being Primrose hosting Hamiltons at Rosmead.
