The much-anticipated start of the 2015 Western Province Club Rugby season lived up to expectations as we were treated to some thrilling performances on Saturday, April 11.
There were some incredible results in Super League A over the weekend.
League newcomers Sir Lowrians travelled to Accordian Park to take on Belhar and came away with a 25-23 win. Primrose secured a bonus point win over UWC as they won 29-22, whilst St Georges had a rude awakening to life in Super League A after they were thumped 53-17 by Tygerberg.
There were also good wins for Villagers and False Bay who proved too strong for their opponents Helderberg and SK Walmers.
In Super League B, Violets secured a narrow 23-22 win over Pniel Villagers, Kuilsriver proved why they are many people’s favorites to gain promotion with a comprehensive 45-10 win over Macassar, NNK beat Collegians 45-26, Hands & Heart triumphed 24-19 over Young Peoples and Brackenfell gave Raithby Universals a tough opening defeat as they ran out 38-11 victors.
In Super League C, Young Stars had a great start to life in Super League C as they defeated Paarl 25-17. Masiphumelele didn’t fare as well as they were beaten 62-6 by Kraaifontein, Silverleaf were comprehensive 44-6 winners over Noordelikes, whilst Elsies River beat Stel/Cor 27-11.

All in all it was a great start to the new season.
The feeling around the province is that 2015 is going to be one of the better club rugby seasons. Clubs seem better prepared and conditioned and have come out the blocks flying in an action-packed opening round.
