DHL WP Under-19s go big

PUBLISHED: August 10, 2013

The DHL Western Province Under-19s bounced back to form in the 2013 Absa Under-19 Competition, with a convincing 69-0 win over Border at DHL Newlands on Saturday.

The WP Under-19s drew their first match of the season (away to Free State), before suffering successive home losses to the Leopards and the Blue Bulls.

However, today was to be no repeat, as the youngsters in Blue & White stripes ran in ten tries without reply – four in the first half and a whopping six in the second period.

No.8 Steven Meiring scored twice for Province, on either side of half-time, as the WP juniors – the 2012 Under-19 champions – put their opponents to the sword with their decisive brand of rugby.

Aside from Meiring’s brace of tries, flyhalf Chris Smith came away with 19 points (eight conversions and one penalty goal), missing just two conversions on the day.

Coach Nizaam Adams was a happy man afterwards, telling www.wprugby.com: “It wasn’t about changing a lot or being overly worried ahead of the game.

I’ve always believed our performances were not that bad, it was always about cutting down on our error-rate.”
