PUBLISHED: September 20, 2013

The DHL Western Province Disa team completed its 2013 SARU Southern Regions campaign with a convincing 48-3 win over Griquas in Margate on Friday morning.

The WP Disa’s scored seven tries to nil against Griquas to finish the week with two victories and just one defeat.

Province began the week with a 20-6 win over SWD on Monday, before going down – narrowly – to Eastern Province on Wednesday (by 24 points to 27).

The SARU Southern Regions tournament is one of two sub-union competitions hosted annually. The Northern Sub-Union competition was hosted in Kempton Park in July, with hosts the Valke being crowned the champions.

The Southern Regions competition ran in Margate from Monday to Friday and featured eight provincial teams made up of the best non-contracted players registered to non-premier league clubs of the southern-unions. These teams were Free State, Griquas, Eastern Province, Boland, Western Province Disa, SWD, Border and the KZN Wildebeest XV.

The DHL WP Disa’s won this tournament in 2011, but the 2012 event was rained out.

Southern Sub-Union final results:
DHL WP Disa 48 Griquas 3
SWD 41 Border 28
Boland 82 Free State (Plate Final) 16
KZN Wildebeest XV 41 Eastern Province 12
