The Western Province Rugby Football Union is saddened by the news of the passing of former DHL Western Province scrumhalf Gerald Scholtz this week.
Scholtz was a livewire halfback who played his club rugby for Northerns Avonwood RFC and represented DHL Western Province in five matches between 1995 and 1996.
He played for DHL Western Province in both the 1995 Currie Cup and in the inaugural Vodacom Super Rugby season in 1996 in which he partnered Springbok World Cup-winning flyhalf Joel Stransky.
WPRFU president Zelt Marais said that Scholtz will be remembered fondly by all those who saw him perform at provincial and club level.
“Gerald Scholtz was a gifted player who had the ability to break a game open and inspired many young players who came after him.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time,” he said.
