The Western Province Rugby Past Players Association will officially come together at an inauguration at DHL Newlands on February 29, which will include a pre-match parade around the pitch before kick-off between the DHL Stormers and Blues.
The Association was established to unite all past provincial players and officials that represented the Union’s founding Rugby Bodies prior to the formation of the Union in 1992, and to continue this legacy for current and future generations.
With the constitution having been drawn up, the Association will be formalised at an inauguration held in the Railway Mall at DHL Newlands, which will start with a meeting of all past players at 11h00 on Saturday, February 29.
The Association seeks to promote and foster the history, culture and legacy of rugby in the Western Province by recognising and acknowledging all past Provincial players, administrators, officials, executive members and Unions.
Following the inauguration, the past players present will then take part in a parade around the pitch at DHL Newlands ahead of the Vodacom Super Rugby encounter between the DHL Stormers and the Blues, which kicks off at 15h05.
Western Province Rugby Football Union President Zelt Marais said that the inauguration signals the result of some very hard work.
“Thanks must go to the interim committee who brought this all together. We are looking forward to recognising all of these past players and administrators at DHL Newlands,” he said.
