DHL Western Province Women made it six consecutive wins this season with a 38-5 victory in their North-South clash with Blue Bulls Women at DHL Newlands on Saturday.
They outscored the Pretoria side by six tries to one, to claim another bonus point win and extend their unbeaten run this season.
The home side dominated both territory and possession in the first half, testing the Blue Bulls Women’s defence thoroughly.
The breakthrough eventually came five minutes before half-time, with inside centre Megan Kannemeyer scoring under the poles to cap a period of sustained pressure in the 22.
That saw them take a 7-0 lead into the break, although it could have been a bigger advantage had they taken all of the opportunities that were created on attack.
They doubled that lead early in the second half, with flyhalf Zintle Npuhpa rounding off a flowing movement which started in their own half and then adding the extras from the kicking tee.
The third try started with a quick tap on halfway by scrumhalf Felicia Jacobs, which was followed by some quick hands to put lock Cindy Booi over the tryline.
The bonus point was wrapped up 15 minutes from the end, with the fourth try finished off by replacement Lihle Mzimkulu to round off a counter-attack that had started on their own tryline.
The visitors eventually got on the scoreboard, with flyhalf Zintle Nonkasana crossing for a late consolation try, but DHL Western Province Women would have the final say, with left wing Simamkele Namba and flyhalf Mpuhpa both scoring late in the game to seal the win and extend their unbeaten run this season.
