DHL Western Province U21 scored four tries on their way to an impressive 35-13 victory against Cell C Sharks U21 at DHL Newlands on Friday.
It was a polished performance against a competitive Cell C Sharks U21 outfit, as the home side showed promising signs on both attack and defence with the play-offs approaching.
The first 20 minutes saw both teams throw everything at each other without finding a way through as the defences held firm.
The first points came from DHL Western Province U21 flyhalf David Coetzer and his counterpart Henry Chamberlain responded soon afterwards as the team exchanged penalties.
The first try came from the visitors as the ball was worked wide to left wing Caleb Dingaan to score in the corner.
However the home side would take a 13-8 lead into half-time as hooker Schalk Erasmus scored from a quick tap just before the break after they had been stopped inches short of the tryline initially.
The second half started much like the first, with neither team giving an inch, but it would be the hosts that stretched their lead as Coetzer slotted a third penalty to put them eight points clear with 25 minutes left.
The second try came as the ball went wide and Coetzer’s kick ahead was claimed by left wing Angelo Davids, who did well to finish in the corner.
Coetzer added the touchline conversion, but they were not done there as flank Shaine orderson powered over for the third try and although the visitors got a late consolation, DHL Western Province U21 would have the final say as fullback David Kriel glided through for the fourth try to seal the win.
