DHL WP U21 blow Leopards U21 away

DHL Western Province U21 scored eight tries to claim a 50-28 win against Leopards U21 in blustery conditions at the Rosina Paarwater Stadium in Bellville on Saturday.

The home side scored four tries in each half to claim their first win of the season in what was their first home game.

The visitors scored first and last in the first half, but DHL Western Province U21 scored four tries in between to take a 26-14 lead into half-time.

Leopards U21 scrumhalf Sylvester Hassien opened the scoring with a breakaway try and it did not take long for the home side to respond, with inside centre Lyle Hendricks stepping and straightening to score agfter the forwards had laid a good platform with a strong maul.

DHL Western Province U21 took the lead soon afterwards as some slick passing created some space out wide for wing Sam Phiri before flank Gift Dlamini went through for the try.

Centre Sihle Njezula burst through on halfway and accelerated away for the third try before creating the fourth with a well-timed offload to flyhalf Abner van Reenen.

The Leopards U21 managed a second try just before half-time, but DHL Western Province U21 went into the break with a 12-point lead.

DHL Western Province U21 extended their lead with a try from right wing Sam Phiri early in the second half, but the visitors hot back with two quick tries 15 minutes from the end to reduce the deficit to 33-28.

However, DHL Western Province U21 sealed the win with three lates tries as forward replacements Joshua Muller and Marcel Thenissen scored before Phiri got his second to seal the 50-28 win.
