DHL WP U20 in thrilling Joburg deadlock

PUBLISHED: September 17, 2021

DHL Western Province U20 scored four tries in a 24-24 draw with the table-topping Lions U20 in Johannesburg on Friday.

It was a stunning comeback in the second half from the visitors, to claim three log points and climb to second place on the standings.

Flank Jarrod Taylor scored the only try of the first half for DHL Western Province U20, as they went into half-time trailing 17-7.

However, they reversed that scoreline in the second half, outscoring their hosts by three tries to one in the last 40 minutes.

Replacement hooker Lukhanyo Vokozela scored from a line-out set play and after that it was the backline who were able to shine as the visiting team finished strong.

Fullback Duran Koevort scored following a powerful scrum and it was some quick hands in the backline which saw wing Rethabile Louw go through for the bonus-point try, which secured the draw.

DHL Western Province U20 face Cell C Sharks U20 at Newlands next Friday as they look to continue their unbeaten run in the competition which has seen them win two and draw two.
