PUBLISHED: August 8, 2025

DHL Western Province went down 47-17 in their Carling Currie Cup encounter with the Suzuki Griquas in Kimberley on Friday.

The home side had the early ascendency and scored two tries to go 14-0 up before DHL Western Province hit back.

A great run from wing Jared Africa set up replacement loose forward Aden da Costa to score on his senior debut and Jurie Matthee added the extras from the kicking tee.

The Suzuki Griquas came up with a third try late in the first half and that saw them take a 21-7 advantage into the half-time break.

The hosts were first to score in the second half as an opportunistic effort from wing Gurshwin Wehr saw them secure a bonus point.

DHL Western Province hit back when veteran hooker Scarra Ntubeni followed through to dot down and score their second, before Suzuki Griquas hit back with a try of their own from close quarters.

Replacement Ezekiel Ngobeni finished off a flowing attacking move for DHL Western Province’s third try, shortly after Shilton van Wyk had been stopped just short of the line.

The home side came up with the last two tries, which saw them secure a comfortable win in the end.
