Youth Mini Rugby in FULL swing

PUBLISHED: May 9, 2013

The annual WP Youth Mini Rugby Day will take place at De Kuilen High School this Saturday (May 11), with 3910 young players – through 105 schools and 377 teams – participating in this exciting day.

A few DHL Stormers and WP players will be in attendance at De Kuilen on Saturday, with the day’s action (which takes place across 18 fields!) getting underway at 08h00 and finishing at 13h00.

There will be a big screen for supporters – and players – to watch the DHL Stormers take on the Waratahs in Vodacom Super Rugby action at 11h40.

This popular annual event is testimony to the WPRFU’s efforts to make the game of rugby accessible to all young South Africans living in the Western Province region.

And, judging by the enthusiasm that surrounds the WP Mini Rugby Day, it is safe to say that there is a very bright future ahead for rugby in Western Province.

“A big thank you must also go to all those who have played a part in organising the 2013 WP Mini Rugby Day,” said Theo Kleynhans, the General Manager of WP Youth Rugby.

“To all those ‘behind the scenes’ organisers, officials, referees and supporters – without you this day would not be as successful as it has become. Your effort put in and time offered, is greatly appreciated.”

Of course, events like this are not possible without the support of sponsors like Spur and Genuine Connection, whilst Peninsula Beverages and Distinctive Choice continue to support WP Youth Rugby throughout.

De Kuilen High School and Primary School and Mikro Primary School must also be thanked for the use of their facilities, as well as their manpower and support on the day.

Meanwhile, ‘LET’S PLAY’, the SuperSport Youth Program aimed at encouraging an active lifestyle for young people, has partnered with the WP Rugby Union’s Youth department in promoting this popular mini rugby event.
