The DHL Western Province Under-21 team recorded a massive 74-12 win over the Border Under-21s at the Buffalo City Municipal Stadium in East London on Friday afternoon.
This victory saw them extend their win record to nine in a row (from ten starts), as they consolidated their position at the top of the 2013 Absa Provincial Under-21 standings with today’s victory.
The log-topping Province Under-21s now have 44 points from 10 matches, followed by the second-placed Lions (nine matches, 31 points) and the Bulls and the Sharks (both nine matches, 30 points).
The Men from Cape Town scored a whopping 12 tries (conceding just two) in very windy conditions in East London, with flyhalf Tim Swiel scoring a try double and also adding seven conversions for a personal tally of 24 points.
Flanker Justin Benn, playing in place of captain Josh Katzen – who is with the DHL WP Currie Cup squad – scored his team’s opening try in the first minute and there was no turning back for the visitors who led by 38-5 at half-time.
Aside from Swiel’s try-double, right-wing Craig Barry, left-wing Devon Williams and outside centre Pat Howard also scored two tries, whilst inside centre Kobus van Wyk, hooker Stephan Coetzee (pictured, above) and prop Sti Sithole scored a try each.
