PUBLISHED: July 13, 2013

The DHL Western Province Under-19 team opened their Provincial Under-19 season with an 18-18 draw against the FS Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

WP, the current holders of the Provincial Under-19 title, led 10-3 at half-time and and 15-3 at one point in the second half at Shimla Park.

However, their hosts did not let them out of their sights and they eventually stole a late draw in this hard-fought encounter.

Both teams scored two tries, WP on either side of half-time and the Cheetahs scoring their five-pointers in the second half.

Flyhalf Chris Smith kicked one conversion and one penalty for the DHL WP Under-19s, whilst fullback Jason Worrall, formerly of Paul Roos and the WP Craven Week team, scored a try and kicked a second-half penalty.

Loosehead prop Liam Hendricks scored WP’s opening try in the 27th minute, after flyhalf Smith had opened WP’s account in the 11th minute with a penalty goal.
