Three Western Province Schools training groups have been named ahead of 2014, as WP look to build on their 2013 success at youth and schools level.

Of the 28 youth provincial matches played in Uitenhage, Bela-Bela, Sasolburg, Vanderbiljpark, Glenwood High School, Oudtshoorn, Wellington and Polokwane during June and July of this year, WP lost just one schools match.

In the process, the eight DHL Western Province teams competing at the various youth weeks around South Africa in 2013, played in – and won – seven unofficial finals to cap off an outstanding year for the province at schools level.

The only side to suffer a defeat in June/July was the WP Under-18 Academy team – who lost by three points to eventual winners, SWD, in Durban; with the U18 LSEN team, the U13 Craven Week side, the U13 XV, the U16 Grant Khomo outfit, the U18 Girls Sevens side, the U16 Girls and the WP U18 Craven Week team all emerging victorious from their respective youth weeks. With that in mind, some of the top schools players across various regions in Western Province, who will again be eligible for selection in 2014, will descend upon the HPC in Bellville – the WP senior team's regular training ground – for testing and training in September and October (2013). The WP Under-15 Invitational Group will undergo testing on September 17/18, whilst the Under-16 and U18 Elite Groups will also undergo testing on those days, followed by additional training days on October 9, 16, 23 and 30. The Under-15 Invitational Group includes players from WP's U15 Development Project, which is run by Hennie Bekker and Wilfred Cupido – of the Toyota School of Excellence – at the HPC. This project focuses on players from the A1, A2, A3 and A4 leagues, all of which is geared to the success of the WP Grant Khomo team.
