WP Rugby paid tribute to for former South African cricket and rugby star Saait Magiet, who died on Tuesday at the age of 66.
In rugby circles Magiet was known as a fine loose forward for Primrose, as well as the City and Suburban Board team, and is regarded as one of the best players not to have earned a Saru national cap.
As a cricketer Magiet was known as a brilliant all-rounder, an opening bowler and hard-hitting middle-order batsman, who captained the non-racial SA Cricket Board in 1987 and 1991. He was also a stalwart of the Primrose Cricket Club, playing from 1971 to 1991.There was no doubt among those who watched and played with him that Magiet would’ve made a unified South African team.
“In Saait we lost a great sportsman and steadfast supporter of non-racialism, one of the legends of non-racial sport. He will be missed but never forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.” Said Thelo Wakefield, President of WPRFU.
