WP Rugby mourns passing of Graham Power

PUBLISHED: October 19, 2022

Former Western Province Rugby Board Member and Helderberg RFC president Graham Power has sadly passed away.

Power was a true rugby man, involved at all levels of the game on top of being a successful businessman and community leader.

Power was instrumental in the merging of the Strand-Somerset West and Gordon’s Bay rugby clubs to form Helderberg RFC in 1997.

That same year he was appointed to the Board of the newly-formed Western Province Rugby as rugby in South Africa went professional and served on the Board for 15 years until 2012.

A hooker in his playing days, Power represented both Stand-Somerset West and Gordon’s Bay.

He founded a construction company in 1983 called Power Group and built a thriving business as well as driving movements such as Heal our Land and Unashamedly Ethical, which had global reach and impact.

In the early 2000s he was appointed president of Helderberg RFC and was known to everyone at the club simply as Graham, known for his down-to-earth and friendly nature as well as his role as a mentor and loyal club man.

Power will be deeply missed by his wife Lauren, three siblings, five children and five grandchildren.
