WP, KZN to host Women’s SFs

PUBLISHED: September 14, 2012

Western Province and KwaZulu-Natal will enjoy home ground advantage on Saturday when they host the two semifinal matches of the 2012 SARU Women’s Interprovincial Championship.

The WP women finished unbeaten and top of the Group One standings and will therefore host the Cup Final on Saturday, 22 September should they manage to advance to the final.

Province, the 2010 champions, will play against Free State at 14h45 at the Theo Marais Stadium in Milnerton, where they are considered to be the clear favourites.

In the other semifinal clash, home team KwaZulu-Natal will be in action against the strong Blue Bulls combination. This encounter at the Mr Price Kings Park in Durban kicks-off at 14h00.

Two seasons ago WP Women managed to break the Eastern Province hold on the championship, only for the powerful EP outfit to reclaim their provincial crown in 2011.

This season, however, the EP team failed to secure a place amongst the four semifinalists and the women from the Eastern Cape will therefore, and for the first time since the competition started in 2006, not contest a play-off for the final.
