DHL Western Province finished fourth in the 2013 Safaricom Sevens tournament in Nairobi, Kenya this weekend.
The Province side finished Day One unbeaten (on Saturday), beating Rwanda 31-0 and Mwamba 44-0, before losing to two Kenyan teams, both the hosts” national sides, on Sunday.
It meant WP finished fourth at the tournament, behind winners, Kenya Shujaa, runners-up, the Australia Renegades and the Kenya Morans, who beat WP into third place.
According to Danny Jones, who is accompanying the team in Kenya, the squad
was well looked after throughout and security was not an issue for the Western Province selection – despite the attack at an upscale mall in Nairobi over the weekend.
Jones told us from Nairobi on Sunday: “The security at the tournament was first-class throughout and we”ve been well looked after on every front.
“We had an inexperienced team here but the guys gave their all and represented the union with honour and continue to spread the good name of WP Rugby. The guys appreciate all the support and concern from back home.”
