WP Emerging team on a roll

PUBLISHED: October 5, 2013

The DHL WP Emerging team beat KZN by 25-21 in Durban on Saturday, meaning they are one win away from being crowned as Amateur Provincial champions of South Africa.

Both teams scored three tries at the Harlequins Rugby Club, but the goalkicking of WP fullback Raymond Olivier proved to be the difference in the end for the visitors.

WP's

tries were scored by Olivier (who weighed in with 12 points in the end), and wingers Sinethemba Mapaqa and Craig Pheiffer. Flyhalf Shane Vallender also kicked a crucial drop-goal.

The WP Emerging team won the Southern Amateur Provincial Competition title last month, after winning all their matches in Saldanha and are now competing with the other regional winners for overall national bragging rights.

KZN won the Central competition and the Blue Bulls are the Northern champions, with the DHL WP Emerging team set to take on the Bulls in Cape Town in their next game on Saturday, October 19.

A win over the Bulls would hand the 2013 national title to the DHL WP Emerging team.
