WP Emerging team goes national

PUBLISHED: October 3, 2013

The DHL Western Province Emerging team will travel to Durban this weekend to take on KZN as they bid for the right to be crowned the overall Amateur Provincial champions of South Africa.

The WP Emerging team won the Southern Amateur Provincial Competition title last month, after winning all their matches in Saldanha but will now compete with the other regional winners for national bragging rights.

KZN won the Central competition and the Blue Bulls are the Northern champions, with the DHL WP Emerging team set to take on the Bulls in Cape Town (venue TBC) on Saturday, October 19. A win this Saturday, and in two weeks’ time, would thus see WP crowned as the 2013 Amateur Provincial champions of SA.

False Bay hooker Shameegh Allen will captain the Emerging team in Durban, with scrumhalf Freddie Muller (who captained them in Saldanha) unavailable for the trip.

Hamilton’s star Morgan Newman, who boasts provincial experience for Western Province, will form an exciting centre combination with SK Walmers’ Danwill Erasmus, whilst WP Under-21 forward Carel du Preez (pictured, above) is a player to watch in the No.8 jersey.

Saturday’s match, at Harlequins Rugby Club in Durban, kicks-off at 14h30.
