WP Amateurs to take on Griquas

PUBLISHED: October 4, 2012

The DHL Western Province Amateurs side will begin their quest for national glory when they take on their Griquas counterparts in the third of three clashes at Florida Park on Saturday (15h45).

With the DHL WP Under-19 (12h30) and Under-21 (14h00) teams playing before them at the home of Tygerberg Rugby, the WP Amateurs – the Southern SARU Amateur Provincial Competition winners – will take on the Central champions, Griquas, in the third and final game of the day.

Both Griquas (October 12/13) and WP (October 19/20) will then face up to the Lions – the Northern Amateur winners – in what is effectively a three-team shootout to determine the South African Amateur champions.

WP won the Southern Amateurs in Oudtshoorn in August, having won all three their matches (against SWD B, Border and SWD A) with an average scoreline of 66-14.

The majority of the side that performed so well in Oudtshoorn will be in action at Florida Park, the likes of centres Albert Trytsman (pictured above with assistant coach Kevin Musikanth) and Danwill Erasmus, scrumhalf Freddie Muller, No.8 Alconray Botha, lock JP Kellerman and prop Denzil Riddles – to name just a few – worth keeping an eye on.
