Following on from last year’s fixture against the French Schools Under-18 side, the Western Province Rugby Academy (WPRA) will once again face up to the French schoolboys as a combined WPRA XV on Friday, July 31.
This fixture has become a regular for the WPRA and France’s best young players and is both a great experience for the WPRA players, as well as good preparation for the French U18s before facing South Africa, Wales and England over the coming weeks (whilst on tour in SA).
Last year’s match against the French went down to the wire with the visitors just managing to walk away with a win. They certainly know that they will have a competitive game on their hands again this year and the French coaches and management are very much aware of the threat that the WPRA side poses.
The French side, made up predominantly of players from the French Top 14 clubs, will be announced later today (Thursday), with the WPRA doing the same. The WPRA team will be made up of players from both the Western Province Rugby Academy and the WP Rugby Institute.
In what promises to be a great afternoon of rugby entertainment, another WPRA selection will play host to a Boland selection beforehand – the team again made up of players from both the WPRA and WPRI.
The first game kicks-off at 16h00 (WPRA XV v Boland), followed by the main game at 18h00 (WPRA XV v France U18s) at Villagers Rugby Club (11, Imam Haron Rd, Claremont).
Entrance is free with drinks, refreshments and food on sale at the venue.
