DHL Western Province Women made a winning start to their Premier Division campaign, scoring six tries in their 38-6 victory against Boland Women at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
It was an encouraging performance from the defending champions, who scored three tries in each half to secure a bonus point win on home turf.
The visitors made a strong start to the game and opened the scoring through a penalty from outside centre Demi Nel.
However, DHL Western Province soon hit their stride and took the lead when wing Alicia Arries finished the opening try in the corner.
That was followed up by a superb solo effort from livewire scrumhalf Felicia Jacobs, who threw a dummy to go through a gap and notch the second try.
Arries had her second from a counter-attack, which saw her turn on the pace to round the defence and come from her own half to score.
Boland had the final say in the first half when Nel kicked her second try, but DHL Western Province took a comfortable 19-6 lead into the half-time break.
The home side stretched that lead early in the second half with a try finsished off by fullback Vuyolwethu Maqholo which secured the bonus point.
Replacement back Donelle Snyders crossed for the fifth try and lock Sinazo Mcatshulwa got over the tryline after the hooter to put the seal on a dominant performance from the home team.
