Warm Kenyan welcome for DHL WP

PUBLISHED: June 6, 2014

DHL Western Province were given a very warm welcome when they arrived in Nairobi on Thursday ahead of this weekend’s clash against the Kenyan national team at the RFUEA Grounds.

There was a huge media presence upon the team’s arrival at the airport, with the team being whisked off to their hotel with help from a police escort.

At their hotel they were greeted by the Kenyan Sports Minister, and more media, before they attended a formal function last night and then spent Friday morning on a safari.

DHL WP coach John Dobson told www.wprugby.com: “We are being treated so well here and we’re very thankful for the tremendous generosity shown by our hosts, who are very grateful for the help we have given them in the lead-up to their Rugby World Cup qualification matches.

“Jerome Paarwater has done great work with Kenya and there’s a great affinity towards WP Rugby for their support and help they’ve given Kenyan Rugby.”

Looking ahead to the weekend’s game, Dobson added: “The WP Rugby brand has massive support and it’s always humbling to see how far it stretches across the rugby-playing globe.

“Like I said before we left, I want the players to enjoy this trip and soak up the experience of being here.

“We’re the first-ever DHL Western Province team to play in Kenya, so we know what an honour it is, and we will be giving our best tomorrow to not only impress our hosts off the field but on it too.”

Saturday’s match – Kenya’s final game before their RWC qualifying tournament later this month – gets underway at 16h00 (local time).
