The exciting DHL Western Province Under-19 team continued on their merry way with a 27-18 win over the Golden Lions at DHL Newlands on Saturday.
The home side ran in four tries to two to stay within the top two of the standings in the provincial Under-19 championships, having also finished the first half of the season in second place on the log (on points’ difference only).
Left-wing and vice-captain JP Lewis scored a brace of tries and fullback Cheslin Kolbe and centre Justin Geduld also crossed the whitewash for Nazeem Adams’s side.
Flyhalf Tommy Allan did not have his best day with his boot, leaving eight points out there in the first half, but he still contributed a total of seven points on the day as the exciting DHL WP U19 side showed off their impressive running game at times.
Lewis and Kolbe were a constant threat with ball in hand, whilst Geduld’s predatory instincts were rewarded with a cheeky intercept pass in the first half which stretched their lead to 14-0 with the Lions hot on attack.
The Lions, to their credit, bossed the opening exchanges of the second half and won the half’s try-count (by two to one) – but the DHL WP U19s had done more than enough by half-time as they led 22-3 at the break.
