The schools day held at DHL Newlands on Tuesday was a memorable one, which featured seven games played in an electric atmosphere.

A healthy crowd turned out for the event, and filled the lower section of the grandstand at DHL Newlands, cheering for their teams until the final whistles.

There were also a number of DHL Stormers players in attendance, with the likes of Chris van Zyl, Sikhumbuzo Notshe, Cheslin Kolbe, Jan de Klerk, Leolin Zas, Godlen Masimla, Allister Vermaak, Dewaldt Duvenage and Damian Willemse all watching from the touchline.

The quality of rugby was also highly impressive, with some silky skills on show from all of the participating schools, which had the cheering masses on their feet.

In the first match of the day Bellville South took on DF Malan in a Bellville derby which was hard-fought from the first whistle. In the end it was DF Malan that edged a 10-5 win, much to the delight of their supporters.

In the next match Kasselsvlei and Milnerton played out a tense 5-5 draw, before Rondebosch Boys ran in five tries on their way to a 25-5 victory against Bellville High, much to the delight of old boy Chris van Zyl.

In the next match it was Cheslin Kolbe and Sikhumbuzo Notshe up against one another as they each backed their schools when Wynberg faced Brackenfell. After being deadlocked at 5-5 at the half-time break, there was late drama as Brackenfell looked to have scored the winner only for the ball to be fumbled on the tryline. Wynberg then made their way upfield and rumbled over for a late try which sealed a 10-5 win.

There was absolutely no quarter given when SACS played Boland Landbou and in the end the Newlands school scored the only try of the game to secure a tough 5-0 victory.

In the penultimate match Paarl Gim were made to work hard for their 10-5 win by Bishops, who never stopped running the ball at their more physical opponents.

The final match of the day saw the two best supported teams go up agaist one another. Stellenberg had to console themselves with winning the best supporters award as Paul Roos clinched a 10-5 win in a tense clash.
