Snyman reflects on DHL WP ‘story’

Backs and Attack Coach Dawie Snyman says DHL Western Province will address their individual performances in Johannesburg and regroup for this week’s challenge at DHL Stadium.

DHL Western Province scored three tries but could not avoid defeat in the Carling Currie Cup clash against the Fidelity ADT Lions on Saturday.

They fought hard until the final whistle at Emirates Airline Park and finished the match as the dominant side, but could not find a way over the tryline to secure the fourth try and a bonus point.

Margins of error

“The Fidelity ADT Lions were good and it’s never easy coming to Emirates Airline Park. We made three, four errors in the first half that took the game away, and then started the second half by losing a line-out and they went and scored points from it. Those mistakes are costly up here.”

Game of two halves

“In the first half we conceded too many penalties, but when we had the ball I felt we put the Fidelity ADT Lions under pressure, we just didn’t have enough of that. The second half followed a similar pattern. Also, one or two individual errors from our side and that was the story.”

Value of Scarra Ntubeni and Steven Kitshoff

“It’s great to have such experienced players around, and we can see the youngsters engaging with them and learning from them. It’s good for them to experience playing with those players in a match situation like against the Fidelity ADT Lions, where things aren’t going their way, seeing how they conduct and carry themselves.”

Visit from the Hollywoodbets Sharks XV

“We’re back at home, and it’s again part of the process of preparing several of the players for the Vodacom United Rugby Championship. We’ll make a few changes and give a few players more gametime. We’ll take the positives from the Fidelity ADT Lions game and focus on that as well as address the individual errors.”
