SK Walmers are looking forward to making their Cell C Community Cup debut on Saturday – an opportunity to showcase the talent of this exciting Western Province club, as well as allowing them to show off their new facilities.
SK will be up against United Bulk Villagers Worcester, who got their campaign off to a good start last weekend with a win over Aveng Moolmans Sishen (24-20), and there is a genuine sense of excitement in Bo-Kaap.
Ebrahim Christian, a spokesperson for SK Walmers, told wprugby.com: “This will be our first game back at the newly-revamped Green Point Track since 2011 and everyone is excited to see our new facility.
“Our guys have prepared well and are ready to go and carry the flag of SKW and the community high. The club, as a whole, is filled with excitement and Bo-Kaap is abuzz to see the guys represent the community.”
Christian added: “We will be representing WP Rugby and we will showcase why Western Province has the best club rugby structures in place.
“We would like to take this oppurtunity to thank our sponsors MSJ Electrical, Kalam Construction, JIVE and all financial contributors for their assistance. We also like to extend an invitation to all rugby supporters in Cape Town to come down to the Green Point Track and support our boys.”
There are some new faces in the SK Walmers line-up, with flyhalf Adnaan Oesman and strong No.8 Jody Burch (pictured, above) providing the experience as captain and vice-captain, respectively.
Front rowers Timmy Louw and Bjorgen Julies will add plenty of strength up front, along with new lock Tertius Koekemoer, whilst wing Craig Pheiffer is back from the Bulls and Wilton Pietersen (an SA Under-20 star in 2007) will provide plenty of attacking thrust from fullback.
* Pre-game entertainment will start at 14h00 at The Track and food will be on sale. Please note, however, that SK Walmers have a no-alcohol policy at their grounds.
