It was a busy 2014 Youth Day in Paarl today, as the entire community got behind one of their favourite sons – Tinus Linee.
Former Western Province centre Tinus Linee was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in 2013 and his old club, Young Gardens, helped host a rugby day in honour of the WP stalwart who played over 100 matches for his province between 1992 and 2001.
Over 8,000 people attended the day on June 16 – a true testament to the power of the fiercely loyal Paarl community – with community radio station, Radio KC, helping promote the day and DHL Stormers stars Tiaan Liebenberg, Damian de Allende and Gio Aplon joining in the fun too.
The Drakenstein Municipality, the well-travelled and always-popular SA Rugby Legends, Boland and WP Rugby were all part of the organising committee of the day which took placeĀ at the Daljosaphat Stadium.
WPRFU President Thelo Wakefield represented WP Rugby at the event and he told www.wprugby.com: “It was a truly memorable day online casino and a testament to the popularity of Tinus Linee in Paarl.
“It was great to see so many people turn out to support the event and credit must go to Young Gardens for organising the day and for luring so many people to the ground in support of Tinus Linee who, as we know, needs all the help he can get.
“It”s great to see a community get behind one of their own and it was a great day to be a part of.”
The entire Linee family was present at the rugby day, but the wheelchair-bound Tinus – who also breathes with the help of a respiratory device – was not able to attend.
