LIVE: DHL WP v Vodacom Bulls

DHL Western Province are back in action in the Carling Currie Cup as they take on the Vodacom Bulls in a late Wednesday night fixture at Loftus Versfeld.

Our boys will be looking to bounce back after a tough opening round of the competition as they take on the Pretoria side.

Good conditions in Pretoria so we should be in for a good game.

0 – Action underway at Loftus and DHL WP run from their own 22 but lose it forward and then go offside.

3 – Bulls with an attacking line-out, but captain Nama Xaba makes a turnover at the breakdown.

5 – Juan de Jongh blown up at the breakdown, so Steyn kicks into the corner again. Bismarck du Plessis looks to have scored but he was offside so DHL WP can clear it.

7 – Another breakdown penalty goes against DHL WP and Steyn kicks it into the corner again. Bulls knock it on this time so DHL WP have a scrum in the 22.

10 – Scrum penalty for the Bulls and this time Steyn kicks the penalty to make it 3-0.

12 – 50-22 from Jansen van Vuuren, so Bulls back on the attack. They are stopped short of the tryline and the referee awards them a scrum.

15 – Scrum penalty for DHL WP this time and Swiel finds touch this time. Bulls take the line-out but then knock it on in the tackle. Another scrum penalty, so DHL WP can exit their half.

19 – A powerful maul from the DHL WP forward pack and hooker JJ Kotze goes over for the first try of the game to give his side the lead at Loftus.

21 – Bulls get a penalty at the restart and drive it over for a try of their own to make it 10-5.

25 – Knock-on at a line-out, so the Bulls have a scrum. Steyn kicks and Leyds’ clearance is charged so the Bulls have a scrum just short of the tryline.

29 – Yellow card for centre Cornel Smit and Bulls scrumhalf Keagan Johannes scores to make it 17-5.

31 – DHL WP on the attack in the 22 but the ball is knocked on so the Bulls have a scrum and clear it.

35 – They go to the blindside from a line-out and Leyds puts a grubber through for Davids, he kicks ahead but it runs dead before he can dot down.

38 – Great chase and charge-down from Sergeal Petersen puts DHL WP back on the attack. Quick tap and Marcel Theunissen swerves to score and cut the Bulls lead to 17-12.

40 – DHL WP have the final say in the first half with a penalty from Tim Swiel to cut the deficit to just 17-15 at half-time. Anyone’s game in the second half.

42 – Sergeal Petersen tackled in the air so Swiel kicks it into the corner but the throw is not straight.

45 – Bulls win a scrum penalty on halfway so Steyn kicks into the corner. Good defence in the 22, but they give away a breakdown penalty and Steyn kicks into the corner again.

48 – David Kriel scores in the corner to take the Bulls lead out to 24-15.

52 – Forwards truck it up the middle before it goes out to Timothy Swiel who throws a perfect inside ball to Cornel Smit and the centre is over for the third DHL WP try.

55 – DHL WP back on the attack and finding some space, but there is a forward pass from De Jongh so the Bulls have a scrum on halfway.

57 – Scrum penalty so Steyn kicks out on the 22. They go to the backline and David Kriel scores again to make it 31-22.

61 – Jarrod Taylor shown a yellow card this time. Bulls kick to the corner but there is obstruction in their maul so DHL WP can clear.

63 – DHL WP have a go and Petersen puts a grubber into touch in the 22. Bulls clear and DHL WP will come again from 40 out.

65 – Bulls defend well and win the turnover at the breakdown. DHL WP win it back and spread it wide, but it is knocked on by De Jongh.

68 – Scrum penalty, so Steyn kicks into the corner. The bash it up and Lizo Gqoboka scores.

73 – Quick tap and they go wide to Tristan Leyds who flies over in the corner for the bonus point try.

75 – Breakdown penalty for the Bulls and Steyn kicks it into the corner. Maul is stopped but it is a penalty try.

78 – DHL WP have kept coming and it’s some more magic from Tristan Leyds who puts in a great grubber for Angelo Davids and the wing steps his man to score.

80 – Full-time at Loftus Versfeld where DHL WP scored five tries and kept pushing until the final whistle, but went down 45-32 in their Carling Currie Cup clash with the Vodacom Bulls.
