LIVE: DHL WP v Vodacom Bulls

DHL Western Province are looking to make it back-to-back home wins to start the Carling Currie Cup when they take on the Vodacom Bulls at DHL Stadium tonight.

Conditions could not be better here for rugby, so we should be set for a classic North-South clash.

0 – Bulls win the kick-off and get on the front foot early. It goes down the hands to fullback Verity-Am who is in for the first try to make it 7-0.

4 – Bulls with a knock-on at the restart, so DHL WP have the first scrum just outside the 22. It goes wide and Leyds gets an offload away before Xaba comes close to scoring, but the ball is intercepted and cleared by the Bulls.

7 – Bulls maul from the line-out and win a penalty, so they set up another line-out in the DHL WP half.

9 – DHL WP win it back and clear it, great kick from Zas and Bulls go offside so the home team can attack this time. They maul but the ball isn’t coming out, so the Bulls have a scrum in their 22.

11 – High tackle this time, so Steyn sets up another line-out for the Bulls in the 22.

15 – Another knock-on forced by a good tackle in the 22, but the Bulls win a free-kick at the scrum and tap and go quickly. It goes wide to Canon Moodie who scores in the corner. Steyn’s conversion makes it 14-0.

17 – Bulls win a breakdown penalty and kick for touch in the 22 again. Keke Morabe is shown a yellow card for a cynical infringement so DHL WP down to 14.

20 – Bulls take advantage of the extra man and it is prop Simphiwe Matanzima who scores their third to make it 21-0.

24 – DHL WP go on the charge and win a line-out in the Bulls 22, but the ball is lost forward in front of the poles so the visitors can clear it.

29 – Bulls win a scrum penalty so they can kick for touch again. Their forwards drive anf lank Cyle Brink is over for the fourth try, which is confirmed by the TMO.

33 – Bulls with another scrum penalty and this time they run it, but the ball is lost forward so DHL WP have a scrum near halfway.

35 Bulls win a scrum penalty and take it quickly, but the ball is lost forward in the tackle.

38 – DHL WP on the front foot now as Leyds makes a break up the middle. Bulls spoil at the breakdown so they kick for the corner as they look to end the half with a try.

40 – The Bulls steal the line-out and clear it, so they take a 28-0 lead into the break.

42 – DHL WP make a bright start to the second half as they take the game to the Bulls. A high ball is lost forward by Tim Swiel, so the Bulls have a scrum in their half.

44 – Bulls win a scrum penalty and then get another penalty at the line-out as they move into the 22.

45 It is a maul and Bismarck du Plessis scores. Steyn misses the conversion.

48 – Bulls blown up at the breakdown this time, so DHL WP kick to the corner as they look for a try.

50 – The forwards drive and then Swiel tries the cross-kick, but Davids can’t collect it.

52 – DHL WP stay in the 22 as they continue to apply pressure on the Bulls defence. Nama Xaba comes close to scoring this time, but the ball is lost forward so the Bulls have a scrum on their tryline.

58 – Bulls break out and nearly score in the corner. The ball is recycled and scrumhalf Marco Jansen van Vuuren is over to make it 40-0.

65 – DHL WP refuse to give in and it is skipper Nama Xaba who comes up with the try to get them on the scoreboard at DHL Stadium.

68 – Bulls in the 22, but DHL WP hold out well and win it back. All the replacements are on now and the fresh legs have given the home side some impetus.

72 – DHL WP look to run it out of their own half from a solid scrum, but a wild pass goes forward into touch.

75 – Bulls win a scrum penalty and kick for the corner, but DHL WP win it back and run from their own 22.

77 – A box kick is spilled and Leyds toes it ahead, he turns on the pace and wins the race to score the second try.

80 – DHL WP refuse to give in and there is time for one more try from Marcel Theunissen, to make it 40-21 at the final whistle. A tough game for the home team, but they showed great character to score three tries in the second half.
