DHL Western Province are in action again tonight as they host the Sigma Lions at a chilly Newlands. A win tonight will put our team in third place on the Carling Currie Cup standings, so there is everything to play for. Follow all the action live with us here.
0 – There is a bit of rain around but it is dry for kick-off at a chilly Newlands where DHL WP are up against Sigma Lions.
2 – Early knock-on from Sergeal Petersen, so Lions have the first scrum. Huge shove from DHL WP wins a penalty and they set up the line-out.
4 – The maul goes down so the Lions have another scrum, this time in their 22.
6 – Lions clear it and DHL WP maul again from halfway. Swiel kicks into the corner but it is marked by Maxwane.
8 – DHL WP carry it up with intent and win a penalty for an early tackle. Swiel kicks the points to put them 3-0 up.
12 – Lions get a scrum penalty this time and Hendrikse kicks it over to level the scores at 3-3
16 – DHL WP carry it out of their half and Swiel finds a good touch on the 22 as they keep the Lions pinned in their own half.
20 – DHL WP keeping coming and eventually they break through, with Deon Fourie putting Johan du Toit in space and then getting it back to score the opening try. That puts them 10-3 up.
22 – Lions on the attack now as they look to respond. They set up a line-out in the 22 and maul. It goes wide to EW Viljoen who slides over for the try to level it up at 10-10.
26 – Lions go offside so Swiel kicks another penalty to put DHL WP 13-10 ahead.
29 – Lions go on the attack again from the restart, but it is lost forward so DHL WP can clear it.
32 – Another penalty from Jordan Hendrikse draws the teams level again at 13-13.
35 – DHL WP on the attack again in the 22 but it is lost forward by Du Toit so the Lions have a defensive scrum.
38 – DHL WP launch a maul and then run a few phases until the Lions put their hands in the ruck. Swiel kicks his third penalty to give the home side a 16-13 lead just before half-time.
40 – DHL WP finish the first half on the front foot, with a few scrums in the Lions half. But the ball is lost just short of the tryline and that is half-time, with the home side taking a three-point lead into the break.
43 – Perfect start to the second half at Newlands as DHL WP pile into the 22 and it is that man Evan Roos who powers over for the try to make it 23-13.
46 – Lions on the attack but Sangweni loses it forward just short of the tryline so DHL WP have a scrum.
49 – Clearance is charged down but Warner grounds the ball over the line so DHL WP clear from a 22 drop-out.
52 – DHL WP on the attack and they launch a maul but it is not coming out so the Lions have a scrum on their 22. They win a penalty so they can clear it.
56 – DHL WP still controlling possession and territory, just looking for a way through to extend their lead further.
60 – Lions with a scrum 40m out after the ball was lost forward. Both teams kicking high balls to try and gain a territorial advantage.
64 – A series of powerful mauls hhas seen DHL WP move deep into the 22 as they look for a third try.
66 – The DHL WP forwards come up with the goods! A series of impressive mauls puts them just short of the line and there is no stopping Evan Roos from that distance as he goes over for his second try to make it 30-13.
71 – Neethling Fouche shown a yellow card for a dangerous tackle, Lions have a scrum in the 22, but DHL WP win the penalty.
75 – Lions awarded a penalty fir a breakdown infringement so they have a line-out, but the ball is stoeln and cleared by DHL WP.
77 – Scrum on halfway for DHL WP after Lions lose it forward. One last chance for the bonus point.
78 – Scrum penalty awarded, so they set up the line-out as they look for the fourth try. Penalty awarded so they kick out in the corner this time.
80 – Hooker Andre-Hugo Venter scores from a maul on the stroke of full-time and that is the bonus point win which sees DHL WP move up to third place on the standings.
