LIVE: DHL WP v Airlink Pumas

We are at DHL Stadium where DHL Western Province are up against the Airlink Pumas in a Carling Currie Cup clash.

Just one change to the starting line-up this week as DHL WP look to return to winning ways. Godlen Masimla starts at scrumhalf and we have great conditions for running rugby here on a hot and still day in Cape Town.

0 – Kick-off here and an early knock-on from DHL WP means the Pumas have a scrum on the 22. Scrum penalty and the Pumas kick to the corner.

4 – Pumas with the advantage and wing Sebastian de Klerk goes through for the first try. Conversion charged down by DHL WP so the visitors lead 5-0.

7 – The Pumas follow that up with a penalty from halfway to make it 8-0.

10 – That is a beauty from DHL WP. They give the ball some width and keep it alive in contact until Angelo Davids dives to finish in the corner and cut the visitors’ lead to 8-5.

13 – Another scrum penalty for the Pumas, so Fouche has a shot at goal and pulls it wide.

16 – DHL WP clear, Pumas launch a maul but the home side stop it and win a penalty.

18 – Nama Xaba with a turnover, so Kade Wolhuter has a shot at goal and lands it to draw the scores level at 8-8.

21 – Another penalty at the breakdown for DHL WP as they move into opposition territory. A powerful maul gets close to the tryline, but the ball isn’t coming out so the Pumas have a scrum.

25 – A series of scrums as Pumas battle to get out of their 22. DHL WP win a scrum penalty this time and kick to the corner.

29 – Powerful maul and hooker JJ Kotze is over, but he lost it forward in the grounding so the Pumas are off the hook.

31 – DHL WP break through again, but a knock-on means the Pumas have a scrum on their 22.

33 – Pumas clear it and Kade Wolhuter puts in a 50-22 so DHL WP are back on the attack.

36 – Masimla and Petersen combine down the blindside and the result is a line-out in the 22.

40 – DHL WP keep the pressure on but can’t land the killer blow and they go into half-time deadlocked at 8-8.

42 – DHL WP start with intensity, win the ball back and take it to the Pumas, but it is lost forward at the breakdown.

43 – DHL WP down to 14 with Godlen Masimla shown a yellow card for not retreating 10. Pumas kick to the corner and maul. Flank Anele Lungisa scores to give the visitors the lead.

46 – Breakdown penalty this time and Fouche kicks it over to make it 18-8.

50 – DHL WP drive into the 22 and win a penalty which Kade Wolhuter kicks over to cut the Airlink Pumas lead to 18-11 with 30 mins left to play at DHL Stadium.

52 – Airlink Pumas wing De Klerk goes over for his second try after a spilled restart from DHL WP. That takes their lead out to 25-11.

56 – DHL WP absorb some pressure on defence and Xaba is there to win the breakdown penalty again.

60 – They take it up to the 22, making some ground out wide, but Pumas win a breakdown penalty this time.

64 – Willie Engelbrecht scores for the Pumas and that is the bonus point for the visitors as it takes their lead out to 32-11.

67 – DHL WP on the attack as they look to fight their way back. Throw not straight so he Pumas get it back.

70 – Scrum penalty for the Pumas so they can clear.

72 – Pumas go offside so they have another crack from a line-out and it goes to the opposition again. Pumas fullback Tapiwa Mafura gets on the end of a kick to go through for the try and seal the win.

76 – Another scrum penalty for the Pumas and they kick into the 22 again. DHL WP turn it over and try to run out of their 22.

80 – Full-time at DHL Stadium where the Pumas have claimed a 37-11 win.
