Over 300 children were treated to a day of fun and excitement at the WP Rugby High Performance Centre in Bellville on Wednesday.
They were brought in from various Children’s Centres from around the province and spent the day on the training field at the High Performance Centre where there were plenty of activities for them to enjoy.
There was a puppet show, a dance competition, facepainting as well as a few jumping castles for the children before Father Christmas made an appearance.
After everyone had eaten lunch, the DHL Stormers players took a break from their pre-season training to come and spend some time with the children.
President of the Western Province Rugby Football Union, Mr Thelo Wakefield, said it was heartening to see the passion that the children have for Western Province Rugby.
“The children are the future of our game, so it was fantastic to see so many of them out here.
“The delight on the faces of both the children and our DHL Stormers players was plain to see,” he said.
Western Province Rugby CSI volunteer Vanessa Botha said that it was special to see the way the children reacted when they saw the players.
“The DHL Stormers players are heroes to these kids and it was great to see them take some time out from their training to spend some time with the children.
“You could see that it meant a lot to the kids to get a chance to interact with the likes of Cheslin Kolbe, Scarra Ntubeni and Frans Malherbe.
“I think this experience will give them some hope,” she said.
