The DHL Western Province Under-16 team began their 2013 Coca-Cola Grant Khomo Week campaign on a high, with a 50-12 win over the Leopards on Monday.
DHL WP led 29-12 at half-time and scored a total of seven tries to two on Monday morning, with centre Taigh Schoor scoring a hat-trick of tries.
The Western Province forwards and backs combined well to produce a solid display, but it was their effectiveness at sniffing out gaps in the defence and creating points-scoring chances that put them in the driving seat.
Scrumhalf Jondre Williams converted six of his team’s tries and also kicked one penalty goal for a personal tally of 15 points on Day One at the Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark.
Such was the competitiveness of the clashes on the opening day, just DHL Western Province, SWD and the Valke XV registered convincing wins, while the Blue Bulls, KwaZulu-Natal, Border and the Golden Lions were made to work hard for their victories.
