Great start for SK Walmers

PUBLISHED: February 24, 2013

SK Walmers made a dream start to their Cell C Community Cup campaign with a 49-26 win over United Bulk Villagers Worcester at the Green Point Track on Saturday.

The Green Point Track was filled with excitement as the crowd was entertained by some good jazz music by Impronto Jazz Band, with some local talent Gavin Roman and D6 Minstrel group entertaining the crowd with some ‘Bo-Kaap’-flavour music.

People came from all over to watch this game and SKW lived up to it by letting their crowd walk away with a smile on their faces. The sense of belonging by being back on the Green Point Track was welcomed by all that came out and people were in awe over the newly-revamped Green Point Track.

The lead exchange hands in the first half and some good goalkicking from Jaylen Fortuin kept Worcester Villagers in the game, with SK leading 20-12 at half-time.

However, SK Walmers drew first blood in the second half with a good try but Villagers struck back immediately with a try of their own.

The home side then started to dominate the game and ran in some good tries but W. Villagers never gave up trying. SK scored a try on the stroke of full-time from turnover ball on their own tryline. After some good interplay, the try was scored by none other than Man of the Match Adnaan Oesman, who contributed 29 points on the day.

SK Walmer’s scorers (v Worcester Villagers):
Tries:
Oesman 2, Erasmus 2, Pietersen, Pheiffer
Cons: Oesman 5
Pens: Oesman 3
