DHL Western Province coach Allister Coetzee on Tuesday confirmed that Deon Fourie would, again, lead Western Province’s charge in the Absa Currie Cup competition.
The all-action Province forward captained his team to the Absa Currie Cup title last season and was also deservedly voted as the Player of the Tournament.
“Deon did an excellent job for us last year as captain and, at times, during the 2013 Super Rugby season too,” said Coetzee.
“He is very committed and leads from the front. We saw how his teammates responded to him last year – nevermind the inspirational performances he delivered too – and I look forward to renewing our partnership.”
Aside from his leadership qualities, 26-year-old Fourie has played at hooker or in the back row for Western Province in recent seasons.
Fourie has played 80 matches for Western Province, scoring 18 tries in the process. He made his senior provincial debut against Boland in 2006.
DHL WP will open their Currie Cup title defence against the Blue Bulls on Saturday, August 10 at DHL Newlands (kick-off 17h05).
