DHL Western Province will face the Cell C Sharks in the Currie Cup Final at Growthpoint Kings Park in Durban on Saturday.
Having finished the regular season in second place on the standings, DHL Western Province booked their place in the final with an impressive 19-5 semifinal victory against the Xerox Golden Lions at DHL Newlands.
It will be the fourth time that DHL Western Province will feature in a Currie Cup Final in the last six years, with their last appearances coming in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
The last time DHL Western Province faced the Cell C Sharks in a Currie Cup Final in Durban they claimed the title in 2012.
DHL Western Province are also the only team to have beaten the Cell C Sharks at Growthpoint Kings Park this season, handing the Kwa-Zulu Natal side a 31-20 defeat in Durban two weeks ago.
DHL Western Province Head Coach John Dobson said that his charges are looking forward to what should be another classic encounter between the coastal rivals.
“I think it is going to be a cracking final, we are up for it and keen and we have seen some opportunities.
“If you look at the teams I think these are the two best teams, so it is the best final that you could get in terms of the players that are going to be out there and the style of rugby they play,” he said.
DHL Western Province U21 will also be in action at Growthpoint Kings Park on Saturday, as they face the Vodacom Blue Bulls U21 in their final.
Head Coach Jerome Paarwater’s team secured their spot in the final with a dramatic 37-36 victory against Xerox Golden Lions U21 in Johannesburg last Friday.
A last-minute touchline conversion was enough to claim a thrilling win and book a place in their sixth consecutive final.
