Excitement building at City Park

City Park will, again, play host to the DHL Western Province Under-19 and Under-21 teams this weekend, but it will also be a time for celebration on Saturday.

The City Park facilities – including the clubhouse – have recently been upgraded thanks to a generous donation from the Sports Trust, whilst, with the help of DHL and WP Rugby, the venue has been branded in the colours of Western Province as the union continues to use City Park as a home away from home.

“We’re very grateful for what the Sports Trust, WP Rugby and DHL have done for us at City Park,” said City Park President Pat Kuhn.

“City Park is a ground for the community and we want people to come and play and train here as they have done in the past. We want teams back at City Park!

“Whilst the facilities have been upgraded here, our ambition is to keep making improvements. Our eventual aim for City Park is to create a mini-HPC facility here to give the local clubs an opportunity to have quality gym facilities at their fingertips. Like I said, City Park is a community ground and we want to lure people (and teams) back and (to) create the buzz of old.”

Two matches will take place at City Park on Saturday, as the DHL Western Province Under-19 and Under-21 teams take on the Blue Bulls in both age groups, with Province having faced the Leopards at City Park last weekend too. The WP teams will be announced later on Friday.

Entry to the ground is free for the matches at 13h30 (U19) at 15h30 (U21), respectively, with some pre-game formalities taking place at 12h30 to celebrate the upgrades at City Park.
