It was the fourth consecutive victory of the season for coach Nazeem Adams’ team who have already picked up wins against the Golden Lions, Toyota Cheetahs and Cell C Sharks U19 teams.
The first half was something of a seesaw battle as the teams traded blows, with DHL Western Province U19 outscoring the Eastern Cape side by four tries to three in the opening 40 minutes.
The visitors were first to score when flyhalf Chase Minaar dotted down, but DHL Western Province U19 hit back with 10 points from scrumhalf Jondre Williams who produced a try, conversion and penalty to put them 10-5 up.
Eastern Province U19 were in the lead briefly after outside centre Jonathan Booysen made a telling break to score, but the hosts regained the ascendency shortly afterwards when loosehead prop Ricky Nwagbara forced his way over.
The home side went on to score two further tries before half-time as Williams’ got his second before left wing Tumi Mogoje dived over in the corner, but the visitors would score last in the first half as a late try from Minaar cut DHL Western Province U19’s lead to 29-19 at the break.
the home side were first to score in the econd half when fullback Tristan Leyds got over for their fifth try, and EP U19 responded with a penalty to make it 34-22 with 30 minutes to play.
Mogoje crossed for his second try to cap off a flowing movement, but the EP U19 hit back shortly afterwards with a try from fullback Michael Botha to cut the deficit to 39-29.
DHL Western Province dominated the final stages of the match and crossed for two more tries with centres Troy Payne and David Brits both getting over for late tries.
