Durb-Bell ready to take on Africa

PUBLISHED: February 21, 2013

Top Western Province club side, Durbanville-Bellville, are hoping to get their Cell C Community Cup campaign back on track when they host African Bombers, from Port Elizabeth, this coming Saturday.

Durb-Bell went down 26-35 to Police in Pretoria last weekend and will have their work cut out for them when they take on the Bombers – a wildcard side who beat Welkom Rovers 35-22 last week.

“We’re excited to be hosting African Bombers on Saturday,” said Durbanville-Bellville assistant coach Bobby Joubert.

Commenting on their opening-round defeat, Joubert told wprugby.com: “Our preparation has gone according to plan and we’ve rectified all the mistakes from last weekend.

“We would like to be more physical and play for the entire 80 minutes (this time around),” added Joubert.

“(But) we have respect for the Bombers – they have an exciting and explosive team and they got off to a very good start against Welkom Rovers. We have to dominate first-phase possession and display more control in our game come Saturday.”

* Former SA Sevens star Jose van Rensburg will be a special guest of Durb-Bell’s on Saturday.

Van Rensburg joined the club in 2002 and was picked for the WP B side soon after. It was not long before he was selected for the SA Sevens side and he went on to play in 22 tournaments for the Blitzbokke.

Van Rensburg rejoined Durb-Bell from 2008 to 2011 as a first team coach and will now hand out the team’s jerseys to them on Saturday, as well as being part of the on-field pre-game formalities.
