DHL WP Women to face Border in final

The DHL Western Province Women’s team will face defending champions Border in the Final of the SA Rugby Women’s Interprovincial Competition, at the BCM Stadium in East London on Saturday, 17 September.

Coach Thembani Ngubelanga’s team claimed a hard-fought 12-7 victory against the Blue Bulls at DHL Newlands on Saturday, to secure their place in the showpiece match.

The A Section Final will mark a repeat of the 2013 final, which Border won 41-8. But the match is expected to be thrilling as DHL Western Province handed Border their first defeat in three seasons in the third round of the tournament, compliments of a narrow 7-5 victory in East London.

Border secured the top spot on the log standings with a convincing 47-10 victory against Eastern Province in East London, while in the other A Section match, KwaZulu-Natal thumped SWD 86-0 in Durban.

In the B Section the Golden Lions extended their unbeaten run to four matches as they beat the Pumas 24-10 in Johannesburg, while Free State registered a memorable 110-14 victory against the Griffons to advance to the final.

The battle between Boland and Griquas, meanwhile, was tight, with Boland edging the Kimberley side 22-20 in Wellington, while the Leopards finished their season on a high note with a 34-20 victory against the Valke in Kempton Park.

Border were in fine form in their clash against Eastern Province this weekend as they ran in an impressive nine tries, which included two each from flanker Nomaphelo Mayongo and replacement prop Siphokazi Soxujwa, to only two by Eastern Province flanker Aseze Hele, while DHL Western Province scored two tries to one by the Blue Bulls for their 12–7 victory.
