PUBLISHED: August 23, 2023

DHL Western Province Women will face the Bulls Daisies in the Women’s Premier Division Final in Pretoria on Saturday having won 10 out of their 13 matches this season.

It will be the third consecutive final for DHL Western Province Women and the first time they will face the Pretoria side in the showpiece match.

The season got underway back in May with a convincing 31-14 win against Sharks Women at Hamilton RFC which was followed by a big 52-7 victory against Boland Dames in the Cape derby in Hawston.

They made it three consecutive wins with a 44-10 win against Mastercard Golden Lions Women at Athlone Stadium before suffering their first defeat of the season against the defending champion Border Ladies away from home, going down 23-17 in a hard-fought clash at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium.

That was followed by a second defeat, this time against the Bulls Daisies, before they got back to winning ways with a 19-10 victory against EP Queens on the road in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The team showed incredible fighting spirit to come from behind and clinch a 17-16 win against the Sharks Women in Durban and backed that up with a 15-10 win against local rivals Boland Dames at home the following week.

Another hard-fought win on the road in Alberton against Mastercard Golden Lions Women gave them some much-needed confidence when they took on Border Ladies at home, claiming a crucial 20-7 victory at City Park.

There was one more defeat against the unbeaten Bulls Daisies in Pretoria, but they would end the league phase of the competition on a high, with a comprehensive 49-0 win against the EP Queens.

That saw them clinch second place in the standings and a home semifinal against Border Ladies, who had beaten them in the last two finals.

Once again they got the better of the defending champions, winning the semifinal 27-15 at City Park to book their place in yet another final.
