DHL Western Province U21 scored five tries on their way to a 40-16 bonus-point victory against the Cell C Sharks U21 at DHl Newlands on Saturday.
Two tries in the first half and three after half-time were enough for DHL Western Province U21 to secure what was a comfortable win in the end against the visitors from Durban.
The home side struck first as some good patience on attack saw the ball worked wide to outside centre Eduaan Keyter who went over for the opening try, and his midfield partner Ryan Oothuizen was next to score as he finished off a counter-attack.
The Cell C Sharks U21 got on the scoreboard with a penalty from scrumhalf Damian Stevens, and they followed that up with a try from left wing Malcolm Cele.
The teams exchanged penalties just before half-time, which saw DHL Western Province take a slender 15-13 advantage into the break.
The visitors took the lead early in the second half, with another penalty from the boot of Stevens, but those would be their last points of the match, and DHL Western Province U21 were back in front before long thanks to another Hermanus penalty.
The first try of the second half came from DHL Western Province U21 scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies who showed good pace before throwing a cheeky dummy to score.
After showing good discipline on defence to soak up some pressure from their opposition, DHL Western Province extended their with another penalty from Hermanus before lock David Ribbans powered his way over for the fourth try.
