DHL WP U19s shoot to the top

PUBLISHED: September 22, 2012

The DHL Western Province Under-19 team moved to the top of the standings in the Provincial Under-19 competition with a convincing 39-8 win over the Leopards at DHL Newlands on Saturday.

The home side are now on 39 points from nine matches played, with the Blue Bulls in second position with 35 points (also from nine games).

The result was also a small matter of revenge for the home side, who suffered their only loss of the season back in early August (by 24 to 27) to the selfsame Leopards side in Potchefstroom.

DHL WP Under-19 coach Nazeem Adams said: “We owed the Leopards one I guess, but I was happy with the guys’ (performance)… in patches.

“We had a few disruptions during the week and lost a guy like Edwin (Sass) early on with an injury but we will take the win and our first place on the log.”

Flanker Eital Bredenkamp scored a hat-trick for the home side, whilst flyhalf Tommy Allan added three conversions and a penalty.

The WP side led 22-3 at half-time and scored six tries in all against the one of the Leopards.
