DHL WP Under-19s go down at Ellis Park

PUBLISHED: September 13, 2014

The DHL Western Province Under-19 side suffered a second loss of the 2014 Absa Provincial U19 season, when they went down 8-28 to the Xerox Golden Lions Under-19s at Ellis Park on Saturday.

DHL WP went into this match on the back of a big loss to the Blue Bulls Under-19s a fortnight ago and they were unable to get back to winning ways against a fired-up Lions side.

The Lions Under-19s led 11-0 at half-time, through a try and two penalties, and managed to keep their noses in front during a busy second half which produced three tries – two to the Lions and one to Province.

The DHL WP U19s narrowed the score to 8-21 with just under 20 minutes left – when flanker Charlton Jonas burrowed over from a maul – but the Lions hit back with a crucial score just minutes later, against the run of play, to extend their lead.

The Province Under-19s are now in third place on the log with 28 points, just four behind the first-placed Bulls U19s.

They will host the EP Kings U19 side at City Park next Saturday (September 20) at 10h45.
