DHL WP U19 overhaul Lions U19

DHL Western Province U19 came from behind to beat Xerox Golden Lions U19 30-25 at Emirates Airline Park on Saturday.

Having trailed 20-16 at half-time, DHL Western Province U19 were impressive in the second half as they picked up their third consecutive win of the season.

The visitors were first to score, with lock BJ Dixon scoring from an attacking line-out.

The Xerox Golden Lions U19 hit back with two tries of their own as first wing Tyrone Green and then scrumhalf Jack Hart crossed the whitewash to put them 12-5 up.

DHL Western Province U19 were struck a further blow when flank Charl Serdyn was shown a yellow card, which saw the hosts stretch their lead to 15-5 with a penalty.

DHL Western Province U19 responded with a penalty of their own from outside centre Lyle Hendricks, but their opponenets hot back with a third try from flank MJ Pelser.

Despite that blow DHL Western Province U19 showed good resolve and hit back with a try from hooker Schalk Erasmus and a second penalty from Hendricks which reduced the deficit to 20-16 at half-time.

A second try from Erasmus saw DHL Western Province take the lead back and their advantage was stretched out to 30-20 when wing Mike Mavovana scored under the poles.

The Xerox Golden Lions U19 scored a late try, but it was not enough as DHL Western Province U19 held on for a hard-fought win.
