DHL Western Province U19 scored four tries in their 29-5 victory against Xerox Golden Lions U19 at a windy City Park on Saturday.
It was their eighth win from nine games this season and saw them close the gap on the visitors at the top of the standings to just two log points with a game in hand.
DHL Western Province U19 were playing with the forceful wind in the first half but it was the visitors who opened the scoring with a try from lock Ruan Vermaak.
Those were to be the last points of the match for the Johannesburg side, as DHL Western Province U19 ran in four unanswered tries to secure a comfortable victory.
Flyhalf Wian van Zyl was first to cross the whitewash from a perfectly executed backline move, before centre Lyle Hendricks gave them a 8-5 lead with a penalty just short of the halfway line.
The next try was born on their own tryline as a massive scrum won possession before a searching kick from Van Zyl put them in position to attack. The forwards brought the ball in front of the poles and scrumhalf Labib Kannemeyer was on hand to dive over and give them a 15-5 advantage at half-time.
The hosts were playing into the wind in the second half, but continued to control the game well and it was not long before flank Shaine Oderson crashed over for the third try.
The bonus point was sealed with a second try from Van Zyl to secure the convincing win in difficult conditions.
