DHL Western Province scored five tries on their way to a convincing 39-17 Carling Currie Cup win against Novavit Griffons at DHL Stadium on Saturday.
It was the second win of the campaign for the hosts, who take on defending champions Toyota Cheetahs at DHL Stadium next weekend.
The first half was all-action as DHL Western Province had the try-scoring bonus point wrapped up by the break, while the visitors managed to score two tries of their own as well.
DHL Western Province opened the scoring with a Clayton Blommetjies penalty after dominating the opening five minutes, but the Novavit Griffons took the lead with an intercept try soon afterwards.
Imad Khan was the first to cross the whitewash for DHL Western Province, having taken a pass from Blommetjies who had sliced through the defence.
Flank Paul de Villiers was next to score, crossing from a set move at the back of an attacking line-out, but the Welkom side were back level soon enough as wing Gurshwin Wehr finished off a flowing move.
DHL Western Province took control with two tries late in the first half from centre Damian Markus, to send them into the half-time break with a 29-17 advantage.
The second half was much tighter from both sides and it took nearly 20 minutes for the first try to come, with Khan charging down a kick and then racing clear for his second.
DHL Western Province kept knocking, but did not add to their score while keeping the visitors scoreless throughout the second half.
